The White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, found herself in hot water after being accused of violating the #HatchAct. The act prohibits federal employees from using their official powers to influence elections. In a press briefing ahead of the 2022 midterms, Jean-Pierre referred to "mega MAGA Republican officials who don’t believe in the rule of law," among other comments. A watchdog group filed a complaint against her for trying to sway the vote. Despite confirming her violation, the Office of Special Counsel chose not to pursue disciplinary action against her, instead sending a warning letter. The White House said it takes the Hatch Act seriously and is currently reviewing the situation.
